Namibia - Southern Africa Namib Desert Landscapes for the Soul

Namibia - Planning your Visit to Namibia

Namibia is in general less expensive than the rest of the subcontinent since its currency is linked to the South Africa's Rand. If you are looking for value for money and a true wilderness and wildlife experience, this is a great destination.

A trip to Namibia for a week or more, combines well with an add-on to Botswana, Zimbabwe and especially the Cape. Reasonable links by scheduled air and by charter offer the traveler a great overview of the region adding a great deal of contrast to a trip. The convenience of making use of air
charters greatly reduces the traveling time between destinations, which would otherwise take hours by road in this vast country.

When you have encountered the charm of Namibia you will want to return more than once. Each season holds a different surprise as the flora bursts from its dormancy after times of drought to the migrations of wildlife that arrive in times of plenty, Namibia is an enthralling destination.

Flying around Namibia
For those who don't want to drive, flying around Namibia is magical. It gives you a completely different perspective of Namibia's dramatic landscapes. You'll marvel at the size of the great dune sea, fly low over seal colonies and then land at a grass airstrip a few miles from your camp.

Practicalities of flying
Fly-in trips can be tailor-made in exactly the same way as fly-drive trips.

Many camps have airstrips either on their property or nearby. Flights usually depart from Eros airport which is in Windhoek and a half hour transfer from the International airport.

Planes are small (usually 5-seater Cessna's or 12-seater Caravans). Because planes are small there is a strict luggage allowance of 12kg per person, which must include camera equipment and day packs. In order to fit into the luggage compartments bags must be soft & squashable.

Flying over Namibia

As laundry is done by most camps in Namibia this rarely poses a problem. Passengers that would like extra luggage can always buy an extra seat on the plane.

Pilots are often very knowledgeable and act as guides as well. If there's something specific you want pointed out ask your pilot before you take off and he's sure to show you.
